Beta Prepreg and Toolfusion® 3 – Innovations for Composite Tooling

 

Beta Prepreg for composite tooling is a JEC 2011 Innovation Award finalist! 

It’s based on Henkel Benzoxazine resin and toughening technology. It can be stored at room temperature for up to 6 months with no loss of tack and delivers superior laminate properties compared to conventional epoxy and BMI systems.

High glass transition temperature 485 °F (251 °C) and service stability at high temperature ensures long tool life.

Toolfusion® 3 is a nano-particle enhanced resin infusion system for the manufacture of high quality, high temperature capable, out of autoclave low cost composite tooling laminates.

New materials for cost reduction

Wrightlon® 3700 is a release film that’s designed for low cost applications. It has an elongation up to 550% with a tensile strength of 7000 psi. WL3700 will release from epoxy, polyester and vinylester resin systems.  Available in P16 perforation style for infusion applications.

Airdraw 2 is a vacuum bagging  film which features an embossed pattern and stiff formulation, which is not softened by high humidity. Users benefit from avoiding the need for breather fabric during debulking, reducing labor time to apply vacuum bags and so reducing cost.

Dahltexx SP-2 is a semi-permeable fabric supported membrane which can be used for techniques such as toolside breathing and bag side breathing to aid the removal of air and contain liquid resins. Due to the micro-porous structure of the Dahltexx SP-2 membrane, it will allow the passage of air and restrict the flow of resin. Dahltexx SP-2 is intended for vacuum only applications.

Econostitch G is an economical, polyester peel ply

with good performance when used with both polyester and epoxy tracers with high visibility to reduce the risk of peel ply being left on the part. Econostitch G has black tracers with high visibility to reduce risk of peel ply being left on the part.
